This well known Wayne County restaurant was founded in 1947, by the Santelli family, and has been in continuous operation until January 31, 2011. It is located in the Wayne County seat, the heart of the counties governmental operations. Within walking distance is the Department of Motor Vehicles, the County Clerk, the County Assessors office and all of the county court systems. Additionally, it is located in the heart of the Lyons community business district offering the Post Office, hardware stores, jewelers, a movie theater, dry goods and general retail store, plus professional attorney’s and medical offices. It has been said that there were more legal decisions and legal settlements made in the dining room of Trombino’s than in any local court room! This restaurant is a Wayne County institution, enjoying a reputation for good food and a following of loyal patrons.
The decision to sell the restaurant was in part due to the death of owner, brother and partner Michael Santelli in August 1010. Paul Santelli made this difficult decision knowing that it would create a void in the local business community.
The facility has more than 8,000 square feet of operational space. That area is comprised of an exceptionally clean, modern and functional kitchen; dining rooms with spacious seating for 150 guests, a full (dry) basement providing exceptional dry goods and support equipment storage, and two fully rented apartments. Each apartment has about 850 square feet of space with one bedroom. The combined rent is $ 1,175 per month that includes gas, electric and water. Additionally, there is a very large attic that might be converted into an outstanding banquet, event or meeting room.
This business has exceptional potential. There is no doubt that this restaurant has been an underperforming facility. The hours of operation were to limited. Sales could more than double with later evening hours, by opening on Sunday and for weekday lunches. The legal and regional business community need and will support an expanded lunch operation.
